You have done your apprenticeship?
You started doing work on weekends for friends and family to get some extra income
This created some referrals and started to build into something bigger, earning more money
You got your own licensing and registrations and started your own business
Starting small you only needed a telephone number, business cards and tools of trade
Work started to flood in and you built a team of employees and sub-contractors
Life was better, your now master of your own destiny.
Not only are you working in the business, doing the work, you are also doing all the administration side – quoting, invoicing, bookkeeping, payroll, hiring and firing, looking for more work and the dreaded BAS and tax work
Financially it was great. You have a home and extra money now available to buy some luxuries.
Being fit and active, you love getting outdoors. Boating & fishing, motor bikes, jet skis and four-wheel driving. So you buy that boat you always wanted, or motor bike or jet ski. Life is great on the weekends.
Fast forward a few years.
Business is booming, you get more and more referrals and you have an apprentice and built a team of qualified trades. You are taking on bigger clients, requiring more hours behind a laptop, estimating, quoting, invoicing, chasing people that owe you money, doing the payroll, bookkeeping and the dreaded BAS & taxes. All this paperwork (sometimes lost as you wrote it in a carbon copy book but now you can’t read it). The accountant ringing as he needs the receipt for some tools you bought.
Your new toys are starting to collect dust in the garage. The new bike is just that, new, hardly ridden. The closest the jet ski has seen the water is when it rains and you left the garage open.
It has been a hard slog and although the money is great, you start to think – is it all worth it? Taking on all this work, making great money so that I become a slave to all this work in front of a computer at night, quoting on jobs, invoicing and chasing debtors, bookkeeping and all the admin work? Trying to read the carbon copy quote book which got wet when you were quoting that new job today.
You have to turn down the invitation to another weekend of boating and fishing with the boys. Your family only see you in the morning and at night after you come home from work before you lock yourself away in your office to get the books done for the next BAS. There must be a better way you start to think.
But there is. You just don’t know it…yet.
What if you could get paid 2.5 times faster than other tradies? Do your quoting and invoicing as you go, in the spot?
Sounds great but you are time poor and cant sit down to a meal with the kids let alone learn something new. But you don’t have to. Quickbooks online helps you with that. What’s more, what about a team of dedicated resources around Australia that can do it for you? How would you like to get out on the jet ski this weekend knowing that all your books are up to date? You are no longer weighing yourself down with the extra admin work of running your business. You can now work on the business and use your free time to play with your toys?
Call the Tradie Accountant now to help you find the time to play with your toys.
